Your Favourite Potholes

One thing that really does annoy me is when Conservative councillors make excuses and say there is no money to do things. They conveniently forget that it is their own Conservative government that is underfunding local councils. Especially bad in this respect are the Conservative county councillors. And the Conservative MPs too, of course, who ought to be fighting our corner.
Local people are concerned about potholes, and rightly so. Have you seen the latest Devon tourist advertising? Devon welcomes you with open potholes….
Just a small joke – sorry, but it does make the point. People are annoyed, and the Conservatives realise this. So they have increased spending on potholes, not much, but just a bit. So they can honestly claim in their election propaganda that they have done this. Richi Sunak was boasting about this the other day. So all is well in Toryville….. Except that that is far from enough.
They could spend the necessary amount on road surfaces, if they increased taxation on the enormous windfall profits of energy companies, on housing development companies and on very wealthy tax dodgers – but this would go against the Conservative principle of preserving the wealth of the already excessively wealthy (see above).
