When we were in the EU, they kept very strict control over pollution of our waterways and beaches. Following Brexit, the Conservative Government allowed the water companies to get away with murder. So we English taxpayers are now facing high charges for water – plus having polluted streams. This is the price of Conservative incompetence and inaction.

But there has been some action on this. Devon’s newest MP, Richard Foord (Lib Dem for Tiv and Hon) pushed forward an amendment – successfully! – to a Government bill, so that the government can give public money to water companies only after they have cleaned things up. Previously the Conservative Government was planning to give shed-loads of public money – our money! – to the water companies even before they had done a thing.
